Vampira

Amigurumi vampires have a big advantage over the others: they can take sun baths! Here we have a happy vamp enjoying her garden in the daylight.

As you know, amigurumi  are little toys normally done in spin crochet technics. Fast and cute. This pattern is included in the book ‘Creepy cute crochet’, by Christen Haden, a present I got from two good friends and a Halloween must-have.

I finish this post with the opening video of ‘The Vampira Show’, with Maila Nurmi in the 50s. She was the first horror movie hostess in televisión history and worked in some movies. The most famous one is ‘Plan 9 from outer space’ (1956), the master piece of Ed Wood, who was the worst director of all times for ones and a cult film director for others. Vampires rule.

RUMS #43: Falda Simplicity/ Simplicity skirt

Eso depende de dónde quieras ir –respondió el gato ('Alicia en el país de las maravillas', Lewis Carrol)/ "Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?" "That depends a good deal on where you want to get to," said the Cat. ('Alice in Wonderland', Lewis Carroll)

¡Feliz RUMS!

This skirt is so easy to sew that I’m almost ashamed of using someone else’s pattern. Even a beginner like me could have done it from basic skirt patterns, but this learner had enough with the challenge of sewing elastic knit fabric! Finally, it happen to be really easy and I much more prefer my skirt than the one in the pattern picture. The original pattern is a Simplicity one and I love the way they explain how to sew step by step and clear illustrations.

And with this outfit, I take part in RUMS this week.

Happy RUMS!

Some time ago, a girlfriend gave me some small yarn balls as a present, each of a different color. I didn’t know what to do with them, so I started mixed two and tried a couple of designs. As it was a small amount of yarn, I knitted this hat. And as I’m happy with the result, here goes the pattern. it is not difficult, but we have to be careful not to leave a tight yarn in the back of the work or we won't be able to get th head into it.

In English, this kind of hat is called ‘beanie’, whose origin is the word bean, meaning head, because it fits the head shape. It seems that, at the beginning a beanie was what we here call a cap, but that it was used later also for knitted hats.

RUMS #40 Reciclando: de camiseta vieja a culottes / Recycling: from old t-shirt to boyshorts

¡Feliz RUMS!

I really wanted to sew a garment in knit fabric and stretch stitch to learn how to work with them. And I fell in love with the retro panties by Pandielleando, who kindly shares her pattern.

I have used the fabric of an old t-shirt which now looks like the ones in action movies, outrageously determined to tear the clothes of the character known as “the girl”, who will have to keep on running and shooting for the rest of the adventure with her belly button exposed.

I can’t miss the opportunity of standing up for knickers, on one side, and cotton underwear, on the other side. Both of them are much healthier and hygienic than thongs and their lycra or lace colleagues. You can find here a clear but incongruous article, as it ends with a display of lycra knickers, which they advised us not to wear a paragraph above.

Happy RUMS!
